Flat Bags
Each flat bag has three dimensions. The first measurement is the width across the opening of the bag. The length runs from the bags opening to the base of the bag. Gauge is the third figure in a bags dimensions. It is a measure of its thickness in mils (1 mil bags, 2 mil bags, 3 mil bags, 4 mil bags, and 6 mil bags).

Bottom Seal Flat Bags
Bottom Seal bags are seamless on the sides, have an opening at the top and are sealed at the bottom of the bag. Bottom seal bags are used for heavy duty applications. They can be custom made to your size specifications, produced with your choice of high-quality material and printing options. Applications include: watertight and leak proof bags.

Side Seal Flat Bags
Side seal poly bags have seals on the side instead of the bottom. They have a fold on the bottom, an opening on the top and are sealed at both sides. They are best suited for light weight materials, and are in some cases, less expensive than bottom seal bags. They can be custom made to your size specifications, produced with your choice of high-quality material and printing options.

Gusseted Bags
A gusseted bag is simply a pleat made into the bag, they have sides and balloon out to hold the product in a box shape. When you put something in a gusseted bag you are squaring the bottom and eliminating what are commonly referred to as dog ears -the corners of the plastic bag that would otherwise stick out.

Bottom Gusseted Bags
Bottom Gusseted Bags eliminate gapping when packing some products and their shape sometimes conforms to specific packages. They can be custom made to your size specifications, produced with your choice of high-quality material and printing options.

Side Gusseted Bags
Side Gusset Bags are ideal for lining or covering a rectangular object. They can be custom made to your size specifications, produced with your choice of high-quality material and printing options.

Anti Static Bags
Yip's Poly Bags Factory offers a full line of anti static packaging products. These pink traditional anti static bags and bubble wrap is ideal for packaging static sensitive components.

Anti Static Poly Tubing
Anti static poly tubing is used to control electrostatic discharge in electronics manufacturing and other industrial applications. Static electricity is a major cause of damage to microelectronic components, computers, and manufacturing equipment. Our anti static poly tubing packaging products allow you to Make your own anti-static poly bags for packaging a wide range of diffrent size and shape items.

Polypropylene Bags
Polypropylene bags are a high clarity crystal clear bag which enhances the product's image. It provides a highly protective barrier against moisture and vapors. Delay evaporation and dehydration to preserve freshness and taste of packaged foods. Less expensive and more flexible than cellophane.

Tubing
Tubing on a roll lets you make bags that are designed to fit any size or shape product. Slide the tubing over the item, cut to desired length, and close both ends with tape, staples, or heat sealer. Tubing is used for wrapping difficult to bag items such as plants, posters and light tubes.

Low Density Can Liner
Linear low density can liner is recommended for sharper objects under tougher transport conditions. Linear low density trash can liners have excellent resistance to punctures and tearing.

High Density Can Liner
High density trash can liner is great for paper and non-sharp objects under moderate transportation conditions. Uses less plastic than linear low density can liners. High density plastic trash can liners have excellent resistance to puncture and high resistance to tearing.

LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene)

LDPE (low density polyethylene) and its cousin LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) are the workhorses of the poly bag industry. They are widely used across all markets due to its clarity, supple feel and inherent flexibility.

Yip's Poly Bags extrudes, prints and converts these materials for many, many applications. As the properties of individual bags can vary greatly with changes in mil thicknesses, bottom seal or sideweld style, or blend ratios of LDPE and LLDPE, we suggest you discuss your particular application with us first.

The inherent characteristics of this material make it a popular choice for most poly bag packaging. LDPE tape seal poly bags are also available in permanent (tamper evident) or resealable styles.

Advantages of LDPE Poly Bags

  • Good Clarity:  Although not quite as clear as polypropylene, LDPE poly bags have good clarity for general purpose applications. LDPE and LLDPE resins are produced in various clarity levels, so it is a good idea to specify the clarity desired to your supplier.
  • Good Strength:  LDPE and particularly LLDPE, have good overall strength properties without sacrificing overall clarity with increased mil thicknesses. Specialty LLDPE resins such as Octene or Hexene enhance the performance of LDPE. By sharing the intended end use of your packaging, a custom poly bag manufacturer can provide the best mix of properties to provide product success.
  • Good Moisture Retention Properties:  As a member of the olefin family of resins, LDPE and LLDPE are good materials to keep moisture within the package or prevent moisture from migrating to the product in the package.

Disadvantages of LDPE Poly Bags

  • Poor Low Temperature Characteristics:  LDPE used alone, is not a good choice for freezer applications. When the end product is intended to go into a freezer, the industry standard is to modify the LDPE by blending it with 3% EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) or other blending agents to get around this inherent problem. Properly modified bags are then suitable for freezer or cold temperature applications.
  • Fair High Temperature Resistance:  For applications at room temperature this is a non-issue. However, for microwave or steam sterilization, this is not the material of choice. LDPE starts to soften at approximately 170-180 degrees Fahrenheit, and is not suitable.

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

We manufacture HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) poly bags from very small to large sizes, as bottom seal or sideweld style on our 13 bag making machines. We deliver on time, on spec and on price. We simply do what we say that we will do.

Advantages of HDPE Poly Bags

  • Better Temperature Resistance: HDPE has a higher temperature resistance than LDPE or LLDPE, allowing molded parts to be packed hot off the press, without causing holes or melt through of the packaging. The softening point of HDPE is approximately 210-220 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Additive Free: HDPE is an additive free material. LDPE and LLDPE must have slips agents and antiblock additives so that the bags do not stick together (blocking). As HDPE does not contain these additives, it is ideal for packaging of products that might be adversely affected by contact to slip and antiblock.
  • Non-scratch Properties: For packaging of optical lenses, HDPE? inherent additive free nature is a good choice. The antiblock additive found in LDPE and LLDPE is typically diatomaceous earth, calcium carbonate or in some cases talc. All of these additives are abrasives that can cause scratching on optical surfaces.
  • Stiffer, Stronger: HDPE has a higher density than LDPE or LLDPE resins, making this a stiffer material. For many applications, this allows the poly bag to be manufactured thinner, thus saving cost.
  • Best Moisture Retension Properties: Whether the package is trying to hold moisture inside the package, or keep moisture from migrating into the package, HDPE poly bags are the best choice.
  • Best Low Temperature Resistance: HDPE poly bags are superior for very cold temperatures, as the embrittlement temperature is about minus 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

Disadvantages of HDPE Poly Bags

  • Clarity: HDPE is cloudy, almost frosty, when compared to LDPE or PP bags. For retail applications where the product is being sold outside of the box, this is not the best choice of materials. For colored merchandise bags, however, it is a favorite for T-shirt bag style applications.
  • Notch Sensitivity: When HDPE poly bags are notched, they are very easy to tear in the direction the film was extruded. This can be a disadvantage or an advantage, depending on the application. In one case, our customer needed an HDPE poly bag for the moisture retention properties and was delighted when we showed him how a notch above the seal would allow his customers to simply "zip" open the package to access the contents.
